When a high school student was arrested on suspicion of making threats against a school employee Friday, three other students tried to help her escape from custody and were also arrested after one of them tried punching a school resource officer, the Hemet Police Department said in a news release.

The 15-year-old Tahquitz High School girl walked into Rancho Viejo Middle School shortly before 4:00 p.m. and got into an argument with and “threatened to harm” the school employee, police said.

The school resource officer was called to the scene and tried to speak to her, but the student “would not speak with him and tried to leave,” according to police.

The officer detained the student and began walking her to his vehicle when a crowd began to form around them.

“Students [were] becoming aggressive and demanding that the officer release the Tahquitz student,” Hemet police said.

One student blocked the car door from closing and another tried to punch the officer as he was trying to get the girl into the vehicle, according to authorities.

The officer called for backup and “had to push the aggressive students back,” the news release read.

The crowd ultimately dispersed and a 13-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of felony assault on a police officer, inciting a riot and participating in a riot. Another 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were both arrested on charges of inciting a riot and participating in a riot, according to the news release.

All four teenagers were taken to a Riverside County juvenile hall, police said.

The officer was not injured in the incident.

A Hemet man wearing a T-shirt declaring “I go hard” was arrested following a brief pursuit early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Steven Alvarez, 32, was first wanted for disturbing residents on the 2800 block of Cindy Lane around 4:40 a.m., Hemet police said in a news release.

Various callers told authorities that a man was spending the early morning hours racing up and down the street in a blue Honda Civic.

Officers who responded say they found Alvarez driving recklessly, and he refused to pull over even after they turned on their lights and sirens.

Alvarez “went hard for about 2 miles at speeds exceeding 60 mph,” the news release states.

The chase ended near the corner of Florida and Sanderson avenues, police said. It was unclear whether Alvarez relented or was unable to continue.

A woman has pleaded guilty to the death of an infant who suffocated in a beanbag chair at her unlicensed day care center in Hemet.

Denise Worman entered an involuntary manslaughter plea Thursday. She’ll be sentenced to 180 days in a work release program.

Investigators say two years ago, Worman was caring for 7-month-old Addison Watkins and her 3-year-old brother at her home in Hemet.

Worman put them on a beanbag chair and walked away before returning a half-hour later to find the infant face down in the chair with her brother on top of her, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported, citing a Hemet Fire Department report.

The child went into cardiac arrest and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

During sentencing in a Banning courtroom, Worman apologized to the family after the girl’s mother, Kristin Watkins, told Worman that her negligence had ruined her life.

The Watkins family had been leaving their son for day care at the home for years, according to a GoFundMe page that raised money for the child’s funeral expenses.

Watkins posted on Facebook in 2017 saying that her daughter’s death left her feeling “broken, shattered, purposeless.”

“I can’t wrap my head around the fact that I am left with a lifelong sentence of pain and heartache yet the person responsible for your loss just keeps getting extensions and extensions enjoying her family at home,” the mother wrote online.

A father and two children he tried to rescue are dead after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Hemet early Friday morning. A third child remains hospitalized in grave condition, according to police.

The fire was reported just after 1 a.m. at the Olive Apartments in the 100 block of North Alessandro Street.

First responders arrived within minutes to find a portion of the two-story apartment building completely engulfed in flames, Hemet Police Department spokesperson Nathan Miller said.

A 41-year-old man had escaped the apartment with his wife, an 11-year-old child and an infant but went back inside to rescue his other children. “He didn’t make it out,” Miller said.

One neighbor, Francisco Paez, recalls the tragic moments he heard his neighbors screaming for their family,

"She had the other little baby in her hands and she was crying, screaming. And it broke my heart. That's why I tried to go in there and see what I could do but the flames were already too, they were higher - too dangerous. I couldn't get in there," Paez said.

Firefighters later found the man dead inside the apartment building, a new release from the Police Department stated.

Three children were also located and transported to a nearby hospital.

A 4-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the news release.

The third child, described as an 8-year-old boy, was listed in grave condition.

Authorities have not identified any of the victims.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Dozens of residents living in the apartment's 25 units have been displaced.

Janessa Moreno, 4; Maria Moreno, 12; Juan Moreno, 41,  died just after the 1 a.m. fire at the Olive Apartments, 150 N. Alessandro Street, Hemet Police Department officials said.

Isaac Moreno, 8, succumbed to his injuries Saturday, family said.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the two-story building engulfed in flames, Hemet police spokesman Nathan Miller previously said.

Evidence and witness statements indicate that the fire was electrical in nature and originated at the family’s Christmas tree, police said in a news release Saturday.

Juan Moreno initially escaped the burning apartment with his wife, their 11-year-old daughter and an infant, but he went back inside to rescue his other children, officials said.

“He didn’t make it out,” Miller said.

A neighbor, Francisco Paez, described seeing the mother screaming and crying as she held her baby.

"It broke my heart," Paez said. "That's why I tried to go in there and see what I could do but the flames were already too, they were higher, too dangerous. I couldn't get in there."

The fire displaced dozens of other residents in the 25-unit building.

In a statement Saturday, Hemet Fire Department Chief Scott Brown highlighted the importance of smoke alarms and encouraged people to call the agency at 951-765-2450 for more information about fire prevention.

“This tragedy underscores how quickly a fire can spread," Brown said.

A former Santa Ana College instructor has been charged with molesting a teenage high school student who was enrolled in his welding class in 2015, and authorities believe there could be more victims.

George Moreno is seen in a booking photo released by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office on Jan. 8, 2020.

George Moreno, 59, of Cherry Valley, was arrested Tuesday at Alessandro High School in Hemet, where he was employed as a welding instructor, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release. Moreno was charged with four felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a 15-year-old.

“Teachers are entrusted with our most precious resource — our children,” O.C. District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement. “Classrooms should be safe place where children can learn — not hunting grounds for predators.”

Santa Ana police were notified about Moreno in August 2019, when a woman told detectives she had been sexually molested by him when she was 15. She said the molestation began in 2015 and told police about numerous incidents that happened at the college over a three-year period, prosecutors said.

Moreno was a welding instructor at Santa Ana College from 2007 to 2018. Students from Santa Ana Middle College High School were enrolled in Moreno’s class during that time.

If convicted as charged, Moreno faces a maximum sentence of five years.

He was released from the Orange County Jail after posting $50,000 bail, officials said.

Authorities believe Moreno, who taught at several high schools and community colleges across Southern California, may have additional victims and are asking for the public’s help in identifying other possible victims.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Santa Ana Police Detective Gerry Corona at 714-245-8343, Gcorona@santa-ana.org. Anonymous tipsters can also contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227.

Officers received a report that there was "a female laying in a pool of blood" in the 1400 block of Rabbit Peak Way and responded just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, the Hemet Police Department said in a news release.

Officers arrived to find three women dead inside the home. They were identified as Wendy Lopez-Araiza, 46, Genesis Lopez-Araiza, 21, and Trinity Clyde, 18.

It's unclear how the women died, and authorities have not released information on how they knew each other.

Police also have not released a possible motive or what led to the women's deaths. They have not identified the two people who were arrested and only indicated they are adults. Police did say that there were no additional people being sought.

A visibly distraught man who said he was Clyde's father stood outside the home Thursday morning, repeating, “they got my kid." He said she was renting a room at the home, and he'd just bought supplies yesterday so she could paint the walls of her bedroom.

He also said his 18-year-old daughter's car is missing.

Another man at the scene said he was Wendy Lopez-Araiza's brother and Genesis' uncle. "We don't have anything to say right now," he told reporters.

Trinity Clyde is seen in an undated photo posted to her Facebook page.

Heather Grisby, a neighbor who’s also the manager at a local roller rink where Clyde worked, described the teen as “the sweetest person that I’ve ever met.”

Grisby said she’s been in shock and “it doesn’t feel real.”

“Whoever did it is an extremely cruel person to be able to do that to somebody so sweet and innocent,” she said of Clyde.

According to Grisby, Wendy and her husband lived in the home with their son and daughter, and possibly others.

A neighbor told KTLA they noticed unusual activity at the home around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. They said the house was packed with people, all the lights were on.

The discovery of the bodies hours later drew a large law enforcement response to the quiet residential neighborhood.

Officers were seen speaking with neighbors overnight in an area cordoned off with police tape.

The deaths remain under investigation, and no further details were immediately available.

Family members set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses.

Authorities are expected to release more information about the killings at a 3 p.m. news conference Friday.

Authorities have identified a couple who are suspected of killing three women in a Hemet home earlier this week over a possible rental dispute.

Jordan Guzman and Anthony McCloud are shown in photos released by the Hemet Police Department on Feb. 21, 2020.

Jordan Guzman, 20, who lived in the home with the victims, and her 18-year-old boyfriend Anthony McCloud, were arrested in Las Vegas and are expected to be extradited back to Riverside County.

Hemet police discovered the bodies of three women inside a home in the 1400 block of Rabbit Peak Way about 9 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a "female laying in a pool of blood."

They were identified as Wendy Lopez-Araiza, 46 and Genesis Lopez-Araiza, 21 and Trinity Clyde, 18.

During a news conference Friday, Hemet Police Chief Eddie Pust said there was evidence the victims suffered blunt force trauma and strangulation. He did not elaborate on how the victims were killed, but indicated that no firearms were used.

Wendy Lopez-Araiza's husband returned home and discovered one of the bodies. The two suspects then ran from the home, got into Clyde's car and drove off, Pust said.

From left to right, Genesis Lopez-Araiza, Trinity Clyde and Wendy Lopez-Araiza are shown in undated photos.

From left to right, Genesis Lopez-Araiza, Trinity Clyde and Wendy Lopez-Araiza are shown in undated photos.

The two additional bodies were discovered only after officers arrived at the scene, the chief added.

Guzman had recently moved into the home and investigators believe there was some kind of dispute over the renting situation, pointing to a possible motive in the attack, officials said. McCloud had also visited his girlfriend before the killings.

Loved ones told KTLA Friday that the family was having issues with Guzman and were trying to get her to move out.

A man who was at the scene Thursday and identified himself as Clyde's father said his daughter was also renting a room at the home and did not understand why she was killed.

Information led investigators to Las Vegas, and Guzman and McCloud were taken into custody Thursday as they were leaving an apartment in the 1400 block of Charleston Boulevard. Clyde's stolen Hyundai Sonata was also recovered and secured as evidence.

Police do not believe anyone else was involved in the killings.

The suspects expected to be booked on three counts each of murder and are being held on $2 million bail, Pust said.

The chief called the crime "egregious."

"It’s a tragic, horrific incident that’s going to stay in the minds of the family members and friends forever,” he said.

GoFundMe campaigns have been set up to raise money for Clyde's and the Lopez-Araizas' memorials.

A homicide investigation is underway after two people were found dead inside a Hemet home, officials said Tuesday.

Police responded to a single family home in the 5000 block of Corte Cerro around 10:45 p.m. Monday for a welfare check after reports that the occupants had not been heard from recently, the Hemet Police Department said.

The names of the victims were not yet released, pending notification of family.
